40th Annual Hemingway Days

Whether composing novels in his Whitehead Street writing studio or fishing for big game in local waters, Pulitzer Prize–winning author Ernest Hemingway left a powerful legacy in Key West. His zest for life, literary accomplishments and enduring affection for the island he called home during the 1930s are to be commemorated Tuesday through Sunday, July 21-26, with the annual Hemingway Days festivities. Scheduled events include a three-day marlin tournament recalling Ernest’s passion for deep-sea angling, virtual symposium presentations, poetry readings, a street fair celebrating Key West’s lively spirit, a museum exhibit of rare Hemingway memorabilia, a commemoration of the 121st anniversary of the author’s July 21 birth and a 5k run that salutes his sporting interests. However, representatives of the Hemingway Look-Alike Society and Sloppy Joe’s Bar have announced that the 40th annual Hemingway® Look-Alike Contest is canceled this year because of the global COVID-19 pandemic. The next Hemingway Look-Alike Contest is scheduled July 22-24, 2021. For a schedule of events and locations, use the following link:  https://fla-keys.com/hemingway-days/
